Bhel poori, dosa and chutneys – classic Southern Indian street food, delicious, fragrant, healthy, tangy, spicy, crunchy, it’s so good you’ll want to tell all your friends.
Hidden close to Euston Station is a street full of Bhel Poori houses. Drummond Street is a southern Indian veggie oasis where you can get a fabulous meal for £6.50 per head. I’ve recreated some of this fragrant, spicy, healthy and delicious food.
Bhel is a Mumbai street food and can be either wet (with chutneys) or dry (without chutneys), it’s made of puffed rice, vegetables and tamarind making it spicy, sweet, sour, tangy, crunchy, chewy, crisp and just really really good to eat. Bhel is eaten with papdis, fried crispy pooris. In additional making bhel poori we’ll also make dosa.
Dosa are another street food, fermented pancakes served with sambal, spicy sweet potatoes or potatoes and onions. Dosa are listed as one of the World’s top 50 tastiest foods.
The workshop takes place in Princes Risborough and runs from 10am-2.30pm and we’ll eat the food we cook for lunch.
